ONDC-Compatible Apps Have Been Created by Seven Companies So Far: Government

Seven companies have embraced the Open Network (ONDC) protocol for digital trade, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry on Thursday, June 23. These seven companies are virtually entirely connected and have created their own ONDC-compatible apps.

On Thursday, June 23, the ONDC Advisory Council met under the leadership of Union Minister Piyush Goyal to examine the project’s progress to far. According to the ministry, the platform currently has connections for five vendors, one buyer, and one logistics platform. These apps, the ministry added, have successfully completed cascaded transactions in the ONDC network during the experimental run.

Goyal urged for a quick rollout of the platform while simultaneously reviewing the progress of the ONDC platform’s current trial launch. He instructed the officers to give priority to plans that would bring non-digital craftspeople and businesses onto the platform.

Goyal was told at the meeting that ONDC and NABARD are collaborating to include different agritech companies and Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) on the government-backed e-commerce platform. Goyal was also told that the Uttar Pradesh government is working closely with ONDC to list the products covered by its ODOP (one district, one product) programme on the marketplace.

Goyal instructed the staff to concentrate on adding GI-tags, Khadi, and other handicrafts-related products to the platform, taking inputs from the U.P. government. The officers were also tasked with improving ONDC operations by collaborating closely with other Ministries and State Governments.

Goyal recommended using the Startup India Seed Fund Scheme (SISFS) network of incubators to build ONDC-based applications at the discussion. Additionally, he called for encouraging the creation of ONDC-native apps in regional languages to serve the needs of various societal groups.
